Adventures in Camp - Teacher Run Summer Fun - Campers aged 4-12

Adventures in Camp (AIC) has been a teacher run camp since 2004. Each year we strive to make the next summer better than the last! Recently we have added our reading, math and writing enrichment program. Every group has grade level activities that incorporate the fun of the summer with the math, science and reading enrichment from the classroom.

What is special about our camp? Every counselor is a local professional educator, or in college hoping to become a teacher. Talk about Teacher Run Summer Fun!

Ages 4 to 12 are invited to come to our camp. Just make sure you are ready for a day FULL of FUN!! This summer camp has a variety of daily activities that everyone enjoys. We have fun playing sports and games outside, making arts and crafts, going on nature walks, practicing for our talent show, and playing games inside. Once a week there is a field trip where we ride in a school bus. Friday is our talent show performance, pizza, ice cream and swimming day.

This summer is our 20th summer, so we have lots of fun planned for our campers!

We have $5 Fridays. This is when each camper brings in $5 on Fridays instead of packing their lunch. (Moms and Dads love this too--no lunch to pack!!) With that money we order pizza, play at the pool and have ice cream! The campers (and counselors) absolutely LOVE Fridays!

Campers will be grouped by ages, and we will try our best to separate siblings so that all campers enjoy their stay at Adventures in Camp (unless siblings wish to be together, in that case, then they will be together). Grouping campers by their ages and interests will make sure all children will be able to do different activities to suit their active lives and abilities.

There is least one CPR, First Aid and Asthma trained and certified counselor per maximum of eight to ten children. This is in addition to our training and certifications that all of our staff go through yearly. If there are more campers in their group, an additional adult that is certified in all areas, will be with the group. This way the campers will be highly supervised and receive all the attention they deserve!

Activities

Adventures in Camp has many fun activities planned every summer. The activities are meant to engage children both physically and mentally.

Some activities include stem projects, musical freeze tag, nature walks, sports, musical chairs, art activities, dance-dance, sidewalk chalk, board games, card games, a talent show, dance contests, swinging, bubbles, and much more!

During the summer we have writing, math, science, and reading enrichment. This is when we find fun lessons that incorporate the skills and strategies from the school year into the summer fun. We usually break this into two segments, one part in the morning, and one after lunch. This way the campers who are in the half day program can benefit from one segment too. Ultimately, learning is FUN, and we want the campers to think so too! We also want to make sure the campers do not lose what they have gained during the school year, so we will have daily lessons that are fun and of high interest for all. Hopefully, our camper's families will let us know the areas where their children need more practice, and we can help out. Since covid, we have focused on social skills and daily journaling. We have found that campers need social interaction above all other things in the classroom. Helping campers with their communication and expressing their feelings will ultimately help everyone.

Field Trips

We have had sign language lessons, visits from Joey the Clown, Eric Energy and Specialist Jackson from the United States Army just to name a few of our visitors.

Some of our previous field trips were to the Washington Mystics Women's Basketball game, The National ZOO, Movie theater, Baltimore Orioles game, Bowie Baysox baseball game, Port Discovery, National Aquarium, Paddle boating and fishing at Centennial Park, Six Flags Amusement Park, Chuck E. Cheese, Enchanted Forest and so much more!

Hopefully you will get the chance to see how much FUN we have in a summer's adventure!
