Get to know the FounderHello, my name is Jessica and I would like to take a minute or two of your time and tell you what Adventures in Camp is, and why I decided to develop and construct a fun-filled summer day camp for children ages 4-12. Adventures In Camp (AIC) is a summer day camp where parents can drop off their children and feel safe that their loved ones are in good hands. All counselors at AIC are CPR certified, First Aid & Asthma trained, FBI & Maryland fingerprinted and have a clean background check. Not to mention that the counselors are trained in camp's procedures, such as safety with indoor activities, outdoor activities, field trip and pool procedures. Now let me introduce myself. I am an enthusiastic 4th grade teacher who teaches in Prince George’s County, Maryland. I have a Master's in Education, specializing in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Walden University. (Great school by the way!) Achieving my Master's not only helped me to enrich my instruction in the classroom, but this knowledge helps me in the summer time while I am in contact with the counselors and the children at Adventures in Camp. I have always wanted to open a facility that will allow children to have an action- packed summer that they will remember for years to come. I do not want a huge facility where you are “just a face” but rather a “family feel” where you want to attend daily. Now back to Adventures in Camp... AIC is a summer camp that is filled with fun for all ages. Having a small ratio of campers to counselors will ensure the children get the attention they deserve. Each group will consist of no more than ten campers. The group will have a CPR, First-Aid and Asthma trained counselor who has a walkie- talkie in their possession for constant communication between groups and the director. This will guarantee each child is given the ample opportunity to express their interests in a structured environment. I feel this is what growing children need, a positive interaction with children their own age and caring counselors. Other camps may have hundreds of campers, but at Adventures in Camp, we have a close knit environment to make sure all of the campers get the feeling of safety and security while they have the most fun possible! I feel that the summer should be carefree but at the same time structured. Every day there is a schedule, with 30-45 minute intervals, that the counselors follow. Of course, if the children are having a lot of fun, the time may extend to 45 minutes. The counselor would just communicate this to the director so that every person’s location is known at all times. Since the summer is HOT, water breaks occur every time the activity changes. Not to mention, the activities alternate between indoor and outdoor fun! Once a week we have a field trip, either we go to the field trip or they will come to us. When we travel to the field trip, we all wear the same color camp shirt for quick identification. Our camp shirts have our phone number on the back for a precaution if one of us should get lost. Rather be safe than sorry! All lunches are brought with us on trips and are stored in coolers which have ice packs to keep lunches cooled. Five years ago we started $5 Fridays. This is when the children bring in $5 on Fridays instead of packing their lunch. (Parents love this--no lunch to pack!!) With that money we order pizza, play at the pool and the get ice cream! The campers (and counselors) absolutely LOVE Fridays! Hopefully you will get the chance to see how much FUN we have in a summer's adventures!
